March 1st Christina Swarns: Justice Delayed is Democracy Denied

February 16, 2024

Christina Swarns, Executive Director of the Innocence Project, will speak at the March 1st Peace Lecture at Bethel College.  The time is 7 p.m. and the location will be Memorial Hall.

Her keynote title is “Justice Delayed is Democracy Denied”.

The next day she will participate in a keynote panel for the first ever Justice Symposium also at Bethel.  There will be breakout sessions with opportunities to explore topics like the death penalty, restorative justice and more.

The Innocence Project has freed 250 people since 1995 who had been wrongfully convicted.  Prior to her coming to the Innocence Project, Ms. Swarns was a defense attorney who worked in a variety of settings.  While at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational fund, she was the lead counsel for Duane Buck.  His case,  Buck v. Davis,  resulted in a 6-2 ruling by the United States Supreme Court condemning racial bias in how the criminal justice system is administered.

Both events are sponsored by KIPCOR, the Kansas Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution.

KCADP will be participating in this event.

See kipcor.org for additional information and to register for the symposium.  Both events are free and open to the public.
