This summer we put together a special election-focused issue of the KCADP newsletter. With the federal court ordered redistricting, Kansans can expect to see a lot of changes. Whether it’s a change to the legislative district they live in or the number of new faces in the legislature when it convenes in January 2013, the Summer 2012 newsletter will help get you up to speed on these changes and what you can to do over the summer to help make sure abolition is a top priority in the next legislative session.
Here’s a glimpse at some of the stories in the newsletter:
- After the federal court had to step in to finalize the updated Kansas district maps, many Kansans found themselves living in new legislative districts. Read our story on redistricting and find out how these changes will affect you.
- One major impact of redistricting is that when the 2013 session convenes next January, there will likely be a lot of new faces. Read the From the Board Chair column to find out what you can to this summer to help educate candidates about the Kansas death penalty. We’ve even included a special educational insert that you can give to candidates you meet!
- Finally, you should know where your legislators stand on the issue of abolition. Be sure to read our story about the 2010 Senate vote on abolition and the 2012 House legislative hearing.
As always, the full newsletter is available online. Click here to read the Summer 2012 newsletter in its entirety.
