Congratulations to all the candidates who have been elected!
We thank all who ran for office and all who will now represent their fellow Kansans in the Statehouse.
We also note that California’s Proposition 34 to end the death penalty and replace it with life without parole was narrowly defeated by a margin of 53% to 47%. That more than 4 million Californians voted to end the death penalty is a testament to the fact that people are increasingly concerned about the fairness and effectiveness of a costly and broken system.
Seventeen states and the District of Columbia do not have the death penalty, and California has not had an execution in over six years.
We, in Kansas, commend those who had the vision to vote yes. The defeat of Proposition 34 will only increase our determination to abolish the death penalty in Kansas.
As we move forward, you can help:
- You can contact your legislators and ask them to stand with us for abolition.
- You can sign up your friends, family, neighbors as abolitionists.
- You can invite a KCADP speaker to your organization or church.
- You can donate to KCADP’s campaign to repeal the death penalty.
